University of Palermo joins National Research Center for HPC and Quantum Computing

The University of Palermo has joined the ICSC (National Research Center in High Performance Computing, Big Data, and Quantum Computing) as a member of its public-private partnership. This membership allows the university to contribute to the development of advanced computing, high-performance data analysis, and Artificial Intelligence.

As part of this integration, a data center at the university campus—previously established through the DARE Project and federated with CINECA—will become part of the National Center’s distributed supercomputing infrastructure. This move aims to establish Palermo as a hub for advanced computational research in Southern Italy.

During a related event on Mediterranean research and innovation, Palermo Mayor Roberto Lagalla emphasized the strategic potential for Sicily to serve as a digital platform for the Mediterranean. He noted that leveraging digital networks and academic collaboration could transform the region into a central hub for cooperation between Europe, Africa, and the Near East.
