University of Parma launches pediatric sleep education project
A new sleep education project titled ‘Chi dorme piglia pesci’ has been launched in Parma to promote healthy sleep habits in children. The initiative is a collaboration between the Sleep Medicine and Pediatric Clinic departments at Maggiore Hospital and the Clinical Psychology department at the University of Parma.
The project aims to involve children, parents, and teachers to build a culture of good rest, which is essential for brain maturation, memory, and learning during childhood. The program includes screenings using creative activities like drawing and theater to assess sleep disorder awareness and encourage better sleep hygiene.
In related pediatric sleep guidance, experts note that managing transitions in nap schedules is critical for infants. For example, transitioning a nine-month-old from three naps to two requires careful calibration of wake windows and bedtime to prevent early morning awakenings and overtiredness.
