University of Parma leads ELDA project to modernize EU customs

The University of Parma is coordinating a major international research project named ELDA (Effective and Law-Compliant Data-Driven Solutions for Addressing Customs Risks) to support the reform of European customs systems. The project has received a total funding of approximately 2.99 million euros from the European Union.

ELDA aims to transition the European Union from a fragmented customs structure to a more integrated, efficient, and resilient model. By developing scientific, methodological, and technological foundations, the project seeks to enhance risk analysis, prevent fraud, and improve interoperability and cooperation between authorities through data-driven solutions.

The consortium includes a network of universities, public institutions, and specialized companies. Academic partners include the University of Bologna, the University of Münster, the University of Antwerp, the University of Valladolid, and the University of Turku. Key institutional and technical partners include the Guardia di Finanza, the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency, and the Austrian Customs Authority.
