University of Patras iGEM teams receive funding from Koinotopia

The social action and culture company ‘Koinotopia’ has successfully completed a fundraising initiative to provide financial support to the Patras Medicine iGEM student research teams at the University of Patras. Between April and June 2026, the organization raised a total of 1,000 euros to assist the students in overcoming funding challenges.

The funds will be divided equally, with 500 euros allocated to the Patras Medicine iGEM 2026 team and 500 euros to the 2027 team. This support aims to cover the high costs of participating in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) global synthetic biology competition.

The initiative follows the significant success of the 2025 team, which earned a Gold Medal and was ranked among the top 10 undergraduate teams worldwide. The 2025 group also secured the ‘Best Therapeutics Project’ award, a first for a Greek team in this competition.
