University of Patras launches first English-language medical program

The University of Patras has officially launched its first English-language undergraduate Medical Studies Program. The inaugural class consists of 50 students from 11 different countries, selected from 168 applicants representing 23 nations.

The six-year program, totaling 360 ECTS, combines basic biomedical sciences with clinical training, utilizing the facilities of the University of Patras Medical School and the University General Hospital of Patras. The program carries an annual tuition fee of 12,000 euros.

The launch ceremony, which included a symbolic ‘White Coat Ceremony’, was attended by Minister of Education Sofia Zacharaki and University Rector Christos Bouras. However, the event was marked by tension as student unions organized protests outside the venue. Demonstrators expressed concerns regarding the high cost of tuition, the financial burden on Greek students, and the need for improved student housing and living allowances.
