University of Pisa welcomes Gaza student Engy Abdelal

Engy Abdelal, a 28-year-old Palestinian student from Gaza, has arrived in Italy to continue her education at the University of Pisa. For over a year, Abdelal documented the war and daily life in the Gaza Strip through articles published by the weekly magazine L'Espresso.

Her relocation to Italy followed an eleven-month process facilitated by a mobilization involving the L'Espresso editorial staff and various supporters. Journalist Federica Bianchi played a key role in connecting with Abdelal in Gaza and actively seeking a way for her to pursue her studies in Italy.

Abdelal will enroll in a Master’s degree program in Peace Sciences. Her arrival marks the sixth Palestinian student welcomed by the University of Pisa within the last year through international cooperation programs and university corridors, including initiatives such as the IUPALS project and agreements with the Italian Red Cross.
