University of Puerto Rico receives $3.7 million in approved funds
The Financial Oversight and Management Board has approved the transfer of $3.7 million to the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). This funding release follows the institution's successful completion of a financial transformation milestone aimed at strengthening financial information processes through periodic fiscal closures.
The funds, which originated from the certified fiscal year 2024 budget held by the Office of Management and Budget, are authorized for transportation expenses and acquired services. The availability of these resources has been extended through June 30, 2027.
UPR President Zayira Jordán Conde stated that the approval is a result of collaborative efforts to complete fiscal closures and reach this milestone. She noted that the funds will help strengthen the liquidity necessary to sustain operations and secure the institution's financial stability. As part of the ongoing process, the university plans to submit a review of its financial regulations by October 30, 2026, to incorporate new supervision mechanisms and documentation requirements.
