University of Rijeka to launch new kinesiology study programs

The University of Rijeka has initiated preparations to launch new undergraduate and graduate kinesiology programs. A strategic meeting held at the Rectorate, involving Rector Goran Hauser and deans from leading Croatian kinesiology faculties, aimed to define the vision for the new department.

The proposed curriculum will focus heavily on health kinesiology to address modern public health challenges. The initiative seeks to establish a three-year undergraduate and a two-year graduate program, with an initial target of approximately 30 students within the next two academic years.

According to Vilko Petrić, Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Education, there is a significant labor market demand for this profession. He noted that approximately 1,500 kinesiology professionals will be needed just to meet the requirements for primary schools in Croatia starting next school year. To support the program, the university plans to develop a formal study program elaboration by the end of the year and will seek infrastructure support, such as gymnasiums and athletic tracks, from the City of Rijeka and the Primorsko-Goranska County.
