University of Salento awards top doctoral theses

The University of Salento has announced the winners of the fourth edition of its award for the best doctoral thesis, organized as part of the institution’s Gender Equality Plan (GEP). The ceremony is scheduled to take place in the Rectorate Council Hall.

Giuliana Barba received the award for the scientific-technological area for her thesis, ‘Competence Management in Industry: An AI-Driven Approach to Taxonomy Enrichment and Integration,’ completed as part of the Engineering of Complex Systems doctoral program. Federica Vilei was awarded in the socio-humanistic-economic-legal area for her thesis, ‘Potenziamento umano e neuro-diritti’ (Human Enhancement and Neuro-rights), within the Rights and Sustainability doctoral program.

Each winner receives a prize of one thousand euros. The initiative aims to support female researchers and reduce academic career gaps, a core component of the university’s structural commitment to equality established in 2022.
