University of Salerno launches community project in Penta

The University of Salerno has launched the first edition of ‘Ponti di Comunità – L’Università incontra il territorio’ (Bridges of Community – The University meets the territory) in Penta. The project is promoted by the CCiSuD International Scientific Laboratory, which focuses on cultural changes, inequalities, and sustainable development, in synergy with the University of Salerno’s University Foundation.

The event took place in the historic center of Penta, utilizing local spaces to foster dialogue between academic institutions, local actors, and the community. A central component of the evening was ‘Voci della memoria’ (Voices of Memory), where local elders shared historical accounts regarding the town’s origins, its connection to water, and the traditional crafts of its former artisans, such as blacksmiths and pasta makers.

University Rector Virgilio D’Antonio participated in the event and received a copper plaque dedicated to his grandfather, Virgilio D’Antonio senior. Other notable testimonies included accounts from Franco De Santis, lawyer Enrico Celentano, and Filomena Iannielli, who spoke of her father’s historical ties to the territory.
