University of Sassari launches organ transplant training project
The University of Sassari has launched ‘Project 4x4’, an advanced clinical training program focused on the organ and tissue donation and transplantation process. Organized by the School of Specialization in Anesthesia, Resuscitation, Intensive Care and Pain (ARTID) in collaboration with the Sassari University Hospital, the initiative utilizes high-fidelity clinical simulations to prepare medical specialists and sixth-year medical students.
The program is promoted nationally by the National Transplant Center (CNT) to ensure standardized, multidisciplinary, and updated training across the field. The curriculum covers critical stages of the donation process, including the identification and clinical maintenance of potential donors, neurological death diagnosis, communication protocols, and anesthetic management during transport and surgery.
Led by Professor Pierpaolo Terragni, Professor Daniela Pasero, and Dr. Laura Pistidda, the training combines theoretical instruction, field experience, and online activities to provide a comprehensive approach to transplant medicine.
