University of Setúbal launches education project in São Tomé and Príncipe
The Polytechnic University of Setúbal (UNIPS) from Portugal has launched an international cooperation project in São Tomé and Príncipe to improve the quality of basic education. Developed in partnership with Mundi Consulting, the initiative is part of the ‘Girls Empowerment and Quality Education for All’ program promoted by local authorities.
The project focuses on the first and second years of basic education, aiming to strengthen reading, writing, and mathematics skills. Key activities include developing educational resources tailored to the local cultural and linguistic context, such as teacher guides and student activity books. Additionally, the program will provide training and capacity building for teachers, supervisors, and pedagogical advisors to promote inclusive and sustainable teaching practices.
Scheduled to last six months, the initiative includes the implementation of pedagogical monitoring mechanisms based on classroom observation and continuous assessment. An initial work mission is underway through October 23, involving meetings with educational officials and visits to schools on the islands of São Tomé and Príncipe to diagnose educational needs and validate pedagogical materials.
