University of Sevilla clinches gold in 3x3 basketball at 2026 European University Games

The 2026 European University Games were held in Salerno, Italy. Spain’s University of Sevilla achieved a double podium in the 3x3 basketball competition, winning the men’s gold medal after defeating the University of Vienna 14‑10 and securing a bronze for the women’s team. The men’s squad, led by brothers Joaquín and Juan Manuel Cebolla along with Andrés Tejada and Antonio Díaz, overcame early setbacks and progressed through the group stage, knockout rounds and the final. Joaquín Cebolla finished as the tournament’s second‑leading scorer with 58 points.

In football, the University of Huelva’s men’s team finished ninth out of 16 teams. Coached by Alejandro “Jandro” Infante and assistant Vicente Fuensalida, the side recorded four wins, one draw and one loss in the group phase before winning three consecutive matches in the consolation bracket, including a penalty shoot‑out victory over the University of Norway of Science and Technology and a 5‑1 win over the University of Western Bohemia in the final placement game.

Both Spanish universities highlighted the event as a showcase of university sport talent and international collaboration.
