University of São Paulo celebrates campus history and scientific impact
The University of São Paulo (USP) recently held the first Fernando Costa Meeting in Pirassununga to honor the legacy of engineer and former federal interventor Fernando de Sousa Costa. The event, which included the launch of a documentary titled ‘From the Farm to the University’, celebrated Costa’s role in establishing the agricultural infrastructure in the 1940s that led to the creation of the USP Fernando Costa Campus.
In a separate development regarding academic performance, a study by Stanford University identifies USP as the Brazilian institution with the highest number of globally cited scientists. According to the ninth edition of the updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators, 284 USP researchers were included in the annual impact list, representing 18.8% of Brazil’s total highly cited scientists. The university’s highest concentrations of research impact are in Clinical Medicine, followed by Biology, Chemistry, and Agriculture, Fisheries, and Forestry.
