University of São Paulo students translate Palestinian paramedic's diary
Students from the University of São Paulo (USP) have completed a collective translation of ‘Diary of a Paramedic in Gaza’ into Portuguese. The project was carried out by undergraduate students from the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences (FFLCH) during the second semester of 2025.
The book, written by Palestinian paramedic Ali Maali Al-Turk, documents his experiences during the conflict in the Gaza Strip, including accounts of life and death in crowded hospitals, ambulances, and devastated landscapes. The narrative includes details regarding the Al-Shifa Hospital and the military operations in March 2024.
Coordinated by Professor Luciana Carvalho Fonseca, the translation was based on the English version of the text, with assistance from an Arabic-speaking student to clarify original nuances. The resulting digital edition is being made available for free through EMA Livros.
