University of Southern California examines AI's impact on democracy

University of Southern California (USC) hosted a Democracy Day event to examine the impact of artificial intelligence on political behavior and media literacy. Moderated by USC President Beong-Soo Kim, the discussion coincided with International Day of Democracy and National Voter Registration Day.

Faculty experts addressed global challenges including political polarization, the erosion of trust in institutions, and AI-generated misinformation. Professor Emilio Ferrara of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering noted that the rapid acceleration of technology development is outpacing current regulatory tools and policies. The panel also included Gordon Stables from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism and Associate Professor Eric Kramon.
