University of Szeged Chancellor alleges political pressure over procurement

Judit Fendler, the Chancellor of the University of Szeged, has alleged that government-linked business interests attempted to exert influence over the institution's procurement processes.

In a series of claims, Fendler stated that Fidesz MP Erik Bánki accompanied an executive from Hungast Kft to the university to propose a catering contract for the hospital clinics. Fendler noted that the Hungast proposal would have cost approximately 2.6 billion HUF annually, significantly higher than the 1.3 billion HUF cost of the university's own internal catering solution.

Fendler also reported political pressure, claiming that Gábor Kubatov summoned her to the Fidesz headquarters to discuss her reappointment and presented a list of requests she had failed to fulfill regarding specific companies and individuals. Additionally, she described a threatening encounter with businessman Zoltán Fausz during a meeting at the ministry concerning IT procurement services.
