University of Szeged launches theatre-integrated course
The University of Szeged (SZTE) is launching a new course titled ‘Performing Arts University’ in collaboration with the National Theatre of Szeged. The program is designed to integrate theatrical experiences into the academic lives of students, moving beyond occasional cultural outings to foster a lasting connection between the university and the theatre.
As part of the course, students will attend four different types of performances over four evenings. These sessions will include moderated discussions with creators, directors, and performers to help students interpret the complex language of theatre, including directing, acting, music, and visual elements. The goal is to enable students to develop nuanced, evidence-based opinions rather than simple likes or dislikes.
The curriculum includes productions such as the Szeged Contemporary Ballet’s ‘Lear’, Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’, a musical drama by Endre Fejes and Gábor Presser, and István Örkény’s comedy ‘Key Seekers’. Following the performances and discussions, students will complete online tests, with results determining recommended tickets for future shows.
