University of Szeged neonatal unit faces temporary admission ban

A temporary admission ban has been ordered for the neonatal intensive care unit at the University of Szeged’s Szent-Györgyi Albert Clinical Center. The decision follows routine screening protocols that identified three asymptomatic patients colonized with multiresistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, specifically ESBL-producing strains.

To prevent the spread of the bacteria and ensure patient safety, the Csongrád-Csanád County Government Office’s Public Health Department implemented infection control measures. While new admissions are temporarily restricted, the care of existing patients continues under strict precautionary protocols. The hospital is working with health authorities to manage the situation and ensure safe medical services.
