University of Talca Botanical Garden reopens after Avian Influenza closure

The Botanical Garden and Arboretum of the University of Talca has reopened to the public following a temporary closure caused by detected cases of Avian Influenza. The reopening follows the implementation of biosecurity measures required by the Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) and the Maule Health Seremi (SSM).

To mark the reopening, 60 primary school students from 11 different educational institutions participated in a formative day organized by the Explora Maule program. The 13-hectare site serves as a natural laboratory dedicated to the conservation of plant and animal species, offering free educational experiences and representative samples from five continents.

University of Talca Rector Arcadio Cerda Urrutia and Blanca Zúñiga Alegría, Director of Community Engagement, emphasized the facility's role in both recreation and scientific learning. Recent improvements to the site include new signage to guide visitors and provide information regarding the various botanical species found along the trails.
