University of Talca develops AI system for extreme weather forecasting
The University of Talca’s Thinkagro Extension Center is leading a 36-month project to develop an early warning system for extreme weather events. Funded by the Maule Regional Government with 250 million pesos, the initiative utilizes artificial intelligence, machine learning, and integrated climate data to anticipate phenomena such as frosts, heatwaves, and extreme precipitation.
The project aims to support agricultural decision-making by constructing a regional climate metabase. This infrastructure will integrate historical records and real-time data to create predictive models, helping farmers and companies in the Maule region better plan and respond to climate variability.
