University of Talca graduates launch amphibian conservation projects

Architecture graduates from the University of Talca have developed two complementary projects in the Los Cóndores Valley, located in the Maule Region of Chile, to protect the habitat of the thorny toad (Rhinella spinulosa).

The initiative, known as the La Poza Amphibian Conservation Project, emerged from research into the cultural landscape of the San Clemente mountain range. Researchers Claudia Salas Martínez and Diego Morales Gajardo identified environmental and territorial threats to the local ecosystem, including the uncontrolled use of these spaces which has led to the deaths of amphibians.

The project aims to address these threats and preserve the bofedal ecosystem that serves as a critical habitat for the species.
