University of Talca hosts workshop on Nordic walking for healthy aging

The University of Talca hosted an international workshop at its Lircay Campus to promote Nordic walking as a means to improve physical health and quality of life, particularly for older adults.

Expert Beatriz Córdova noted that using walking poles activates more than 90% of the body's musculature, offering greater benefits than conventional walking. Beyond the physical advantages, the activity emphasizes social connection, allowing participants to build community through group movement.

Iván Palomo González, director of the Vitalis Longevity Center at the University of Talca, highlighted that the social aspect of Nordic walking is vital for healthy aging. The event also featured a lecture by Brazilian expert Leonardo Peyré Tartaruga for health professionals, kinesiology students, and physical education instructors.
