University of Talca signs global agroindustrial and energy transition declaration

The University of Talca has signed a global declaration for agroindustrial sovereignty and energy transition during ‘The Oxford-NEXUS 2050 Global Roundtable’ held at New College, University of Oxford. The multilateral alliance aims to link clean energy with the agricultural sector, focusing on the development of green fertilizers, artificial intelligence, and investment instruments to support growth in Chile and the Global South.

University Rector Arcadio Cerda Urrutia noted that the agricultural sector in the Maule region and the Southern Macrozone has historically been vulnerable to international crises due to a heavy reliance on imported fossil-based fertilizers. By participating in the Oxford Declaration, the university seeks to ensure that the green hydrogen economy serves as a practical tool for securing green inputs, food sovereignty, and global competitiveness for local farmers.

The summit was co-chaired by Ernesto Santibáñez González, an academic from the University of Talca and executive president of Nexus2050, and Professor René Bañares-Alcántara from the University of Oxford.
