University of Tennessee hosts NIL media event for athletes

The University of Tennessee recently hosted a multimedia ‘carwash’ day to facilitate Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities for its student-athletes. Organized by Learfield, a multimedia and sponsorships company, the event allowed approximately 50 football players to engage with 29 different brands to produce commercials, social media content, and radio promotions.

This organized approach reflects the evolving landscape of college athletics five years into the NIL era. Unlike previous decades where sponsorship was limited to traditional radio and program advertisements, athletes now participate in diverse deals ranging from local business partnerships to multimillion-dollar contracts. The event utilized various campus locations, including indoor practice fields and specialized recording rooms, to streamline the production of content for brands such as Uber Eats, Pilot, and various local businesses.
