University of Tetovo students demand state exams in Albanian
The Student Assembly of the University of Tetovo has submitted a formal request to the North Macedonian Ministry of Justice to allow state professional examinations to be conducted in the Albanian language. The request specifically targets exams for jurisprudence, notaries, and bailiffs.
Student representatives argue that conducting these exams exclusively in Macedonian creates inequality and additional difficulties for Albanian-speaking students who complete their studies in their native language. They are calling for the provision of all examination materials and components in Albanian to ensure equal opportunities for employment and professional development.
Gent Kurtishi, president of the Student Assembly, emphasized that the demand is rooted in the right to use the Albanian language and the principles of equality and non-discrimination. The assembly cited Article 23, paragraphs 4 and 5 of the Law on the Use of Languages as the legal basis for their request. Students noted that they have addressed this issue with the Ministry of Justice and other competent institutions multiple times over the past two years, but have yet to receive a concrete solution.
