University of Texas launches Bevo Lab AI platform for athletics
The University of Texas has introduced 'Bevo Lab,' a new 25,000-square-foot artificial intelligence facility designed to assist athletic departments with decision-making and daily operations. Sponsored by Dell, Google, and SHI International, the platform utilizes Google’s Cloud Platform and Gemini agentic AI system.
Athletic director Chris Del Conte stated the initiative is intended to provide data and intelligence to coaches, trainers, nutritionists, student-athletes, and analysts across all varsity sports. While the football team recently utilized the platform, the technology is being expanded to every Longhorns sports team to support informed strategies and competition outcomes.
Following reports regarding whether the AI was used to call a specific fourth-down play during a recent game against Florida, Del Conte clarified the platform's role. The initiative aims to address various aspects of modern college athletics, including roster building and revenue-sharing management.
