University of the Balearic Islands expands academic offerings and energy projects

The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is launching the 2026-2027 academic year with approximately 11,000 students, including 3,500 new enrollments. The university is introducing several new academic offerings, such as a double degree in Mathematics and Physics, a degree in Marine Sciences, and various master's programs in collaboration with Portuguese and Serbian institutions.

In a move toward sustainability, the university is implementing an energy self-consumption project with a maximum installed power peak of 7.5 MW. Additionally, the Governing Council has authorized the creation of a dedicated Faculty of Pharmacy. This new faculty aims to consolidate the Pharmacy degree, which has seen high demand since its implementation, and will align the UIB with the organizational model used by most major Spanish universities.

The expansion is supported by the regional government, which has allocated over 6.5 million euros to the period between 2024 and 2029 to facilitate these developments.
