University of the Balearic Islands resumes classes after building fire
Academic activities have resumed at the Faculty of Tourism and the Balearic Islands School of Hotel Management following a fire at the Arxiduc Lluís Salvador building on Saturday, September 26. The fire originated on the rooftop and affected one classroom due to firefighting efforts, but classes have been rescheduled within the same building.
Investigations suggest the fire was caused by flammable construction materials related to kitchen renovations on the rooftop, which subsequently affected the waterproofing layer and a propane pipe. Authorities have ruled out the building's photovoltaic installations as a cause, noting that the solar panels were not directly impacted by the flames. Maintenance teams successfully cut gas and electricity supplies to prevent further damage, and no personal injuries were reported.
