University of Theatre and Film Arts rector Enikő Sepsi announces resignation

Enikő Sepsi, the rector of the University of Theatre and Film Arts (SZFE), has initiated negotiations for an orderly conclusion to her mandate. The announcement was made during the university’s academic year opening ceremony.

Sepsi stated that rectorial responsibility includes recognizing when an orderly leadership transition serves the institution's future. This move follows changes in the university's governance structure. Under recent legislation, the Minister of Education and Children's Affairs exercises founder rights for the foundation managing the university, allowing for the appointment of board members.

The new board of trustees has already been established, with film theorist András Bálint Kovács appointed as chairman. The board also includes László Upor, a former acting rector. This leadership shift follows previous controversies regarding the legitimacy of the university senate and calls from students and faculty for a complete change in top management.
