University of Thessaly professor shares nutritional tips for sedentary lifestyles
Thanasis Tzamourtas, a professor at the University of Thessaly, has provided ten practical nutritional tips for individuals spending extended periods at home due to remote work, study, or sedentary lifestyles. He notes that easy access to food, snacking, stress, and reduced physical activity can disrupt the balance between energy intake and expenditure.
Rather than simply eating less, the focus should be on food quality, adequate protein and fiber intake, and limiting ultra-processed foods. Key recommendations include maintaining a stable meal schedule to avoid constant snacking, adjusting portion sizes to match lower activity levels, emphasizing plant-based foods like vegetables and legumes, and ensuring sufficient protein intake through sources such as fish, eggs, and lean meats to maintain muscle mass.
