University of Thessaly secures funding for staff and student housing

The University of Thessaly has secured significant funding and support measures to enhance its academic operations and student welfare. The Ministry of National Economy and Finance approved approximately 1.92 million euros to hire contract instructors for the 2026-2027 academic year. This allocation represents the fifth-highest funding amount among Greece's 24 universities and aims to ensure the smooth implementation of curricula and maintain educational quality.

In addition to academic staffing, the university is providing housing allowances to 1,120 students across five cities: Volos, Larissa, Trikala, Karditsa, and Lamia. Of these recipients, 1,011 will receive 2,000 euros, while 109 will receive 2,500 euros. This initiative is designed to mitigate housing costs and promote equal access to higher education. Furthermore, the university is planning the construction of new student residences in Volos and Lamia, with a capacity for 908 beds, expected to be finalized by the end of 2026.
