Sakkas, a professor at the University of Thessaly, suggests that energy drink use in teenagers may serve as an indicator of insufficient sleep rather than just a simple intake of caffeine or sugar. The research highlights a potential vicious cycle: inadequate sleep leads to fatigue, which prompts the use of stimulants to maintain focus or energy for studies and sports. This increased caffeine intake can further disrupt sleep quality.
