University of Tokyo leads 2026 national civil service exam rankings

The University Power Ranking has released the 2026 rankings for universities with the highest number of successful candidates in the National Civil Service Comprehensive Service Examination.

The University of Tokyo ranked first with 458 successful candidates, an increase of 131 from the previous year. This total includes 167 from the autumn exam and 291 from the spring exam, the latter of which includes 91 successful candidates from the newly established liberal arts category.

Kyoto University secured second place with 180 successful candidates, up by 9 from the previous year. Waseda University ranked third with 156 successful candidates, marking the highest number among private universities and an increase of 33 from the prior year.

Other top-ranking institutions include Keio University (93), Tohoku University (84), Chuo University (81), Hokkaido University (80), Ritsumeikan University (63), Osaka University (59), and Chiba University (58).
