University of Toulouse to host lecture series on artificial intelligence
The University of Toulouse has announced the start of its 2026/2027 scientific lecture series, titled “Openings,” focusing on the theme of artificial intelligence: promises, realities, and challenges.
On November 5, 2026, Serge Gratton, a professor of applied mathematics at Toulouse INP – ENSEEIHT and scientific director of ANITI, will deliver the inaugural lecture. The presentation aims to provide a foundational understanding of AI, tracing its evolution from early approaches to modern neural networks and large language models.
The lecture will explore the mathematical principles behind data-driven learning and examine the capabilities and limitations of current AI systems. Gratton intends to address the distinction between generating plausible responses and true understanding, highlighting the errors and fragilities inherent in the technology.
