University of Udine concludes three-year mountain school project in Barcis

The University of Udine has concluded its three-year 'Scuola della montagna–Dolomiti friulane' project in Barcis. Part of the National Strategy for Inner Areas, the initiative aimed to strengthen human capital in high-altitude regions to support youth entrepreneurship and maintain the socio-economic fabric of the Dolomites.

Since its launch in 2024, the program hosted 12 residential courses that drew 223 participants from over 450 applications. The curriculum covered diverse topics including agriculture, livestock, forestry, tourism, energy, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and local traditions. The project involved 58 local entities and nearly 200 experts and lecturers.

Participants received certificates valid for three university credits. School director Andrea Guaran noted that the program successfully connected the university with mountain communities, specifically engaging students and young adults. Local officials emphasized that such educational investments are vital for territories facing challenges like depopulation and aging populations.
