University of Udine launches wildlife management master's program

The University of Udine has launched a new one-year master's program focused on the management, conservation, monitoring, and care of wildlife. Directed by Stefano Filacorda, the program aims to train professionals capable of integrating ecological, veterinary, and management skills to promote coexistence between human activities and wild animals.

The curriculum covers a wide range of species, including large carnivores such as bears, wolves, and lynxes, as well as ungulates, birds of prey, and aquatic species. Students will learn advanced techniques for wildlife monitoring, including both invasive methods like capture and satellite radio-collaring, and non-invasive methods such as biological sampling, camera trapping, passive acoustic monitoring, and snow tracking.

The program offers 25 spots for master's graduates. It consists of 304 hours of instruction, with approximately 50% delivered online, and includes 400 hours of practical internship. Applications must be submitted by noon on October 1st, with the course scheduled to begin in November.
