University of Udine mourns passing of Professor Pierluigi Bonfanti

The University of Udine has announced the passing of Professor Pierluigi Bonfanti, a prominent figure in the institution's academic history. Bonfanti previously served as the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and as the Director of the Department of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Throughout his career, Bonfanti specialized in agricultural engineering, applied geomatics, rural sustainability, and agro-environmental resource management. He was an active member of the Italian Association of Agricultural Engineering (AIIA) and was noted for his contributions to student training and institutional leadership.

University Rector Angelo Montanari expressed condolences, describing the loss as a blow to the university community and praising Bonfanti’s scientific abilities, intellectual rigor, and dedication to colleagues and students. Edi Piasentier, Director of the Department of Agri-food, Environmental and Animal Sciences, also honored his memory, highlighting his professional competence and humanity.
