University of Udine researcher wins Italy’s best doctoral thesis in operational research
Francesca Da Ros, a researcher from the University of Udine, has been awarded the best doctoral thesis in Italy for operational research by the Italian Association of Operational Research (Airo).
Her research focuses on using advanced optimization techniques and artificial intelligence to improve complex decision-making processes. Key applications of her work include optimizing production cycles for industrial furnaces to increase efficiency and reduce energy consumption, as well as improving the planning of home care services. In the latter case, her algorithms aim to balance service efficiency with the personalized needs of individual patients.
Da Ros completed her PhD in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence under the supervision of Luca Di Gaspero, which included a research period at the Vienna University of Technology. Her academic background also includes studies in management engineering with a double degree from the University of Graz.
