University of Udine study evaluates wine closure evolution

A collaborative study between Vinolok and the University of Udine has released its first significant findings regarding the impact of bottle closures on wine evolution. After 36 months of monitoring Pinot Grigio and Pinot Nero, researchers compared four sealing systems: glass, screw cap, cork, and technical closures.

The research, which began in May 2023 and is intended to last at least five years, utilizes both instrumental analysis and independent tastings to evaluate how different closures manage gas exchange and influence oxidation or aromatic development. Initial results for Pinot Grigio using the Vinolok glass closure showed a balanced sensory profile with high olfactory quality and no significant evidence of oxidation or reduction.
