University of Vermont announces tuition discounts for New England students

The University of Vermont (UVM) has announced a new tuition discount program for students from select New England states, including Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Beginning in fall 2027, eligible first-year or transfer students will pay an estimated annual rate of $30,240, which represents a 35% reduction from the standard out-of-state tuition of $46,655.

To qualify for the discount, students must enroll in one of 31 specific majors across the departments of agriculture and life sciences, education and social services, and environment and natural resources. These programs were selected due to their focus on community impact, sustainability, and public service. Students must remain in these designated majors throughout their studies to maintain eligibility.

Jay Johnson, UVM's vice president of enrollment management, stated the initiative aims to provide more affordable higher education options and create pathways to careers in agriculture, education, and the environment. The program follows similar regional discount models used by schools within the Maine public university system.
