University of Verona leads Italian motor sciences research

The University of Verona is leading a national research initiative in motor and sports sciences through its National PhD program. Coordinated by Professor Federico Schena, the program involves over 60 faculty members and more than 90 doctoral students.

Now in its fourth year, the program has expanded its network to include over 40 participating sites, including universities in Catania, Messina, and Perugia, alongside various private companies. For the 42nd cycle, 30 scholarships have been activated, seven of which are specifically reserved for company employees to foster integration between academia and the productive sector.

The program has seen significant international interest, with nearly 50% of the 180 applications coming from abroad. Research areas are transdisciplinary, covering biomedical, psychopedagogical, and sociological aspects. Key topics include athletic performance, training methodologies, physical activity for chronic disease prevention, innovative movement analysis technologies, and preventive medicine.
