Montenegro accuses far-left parties of seeking to incite social indignation in Portugal
During a parliamentary debate in the Assembleia da República, Prime Minister Luís Montenegro accused far-left parties and movements of attempting to incite social indignation in Portugal, drawing parallels to recent social unrest in Spain following a high-profile eviction case.
Responding to questions from CDS parliamentary leader Paulo Núncio regarding the possibility of elderly citizens facing eviction, Montenegro asserted that current urban leasing laws in Portugal provide absolute protection against such circumstances. He argued that the political left is seeking to instrumentalize social issues to create unrest.
In unrelated regional news, the Polytechnic University of Viana do Castelo (UNIPVC) and the Municipality of Matosinhos have both been awarded the Gold Seal for Digital Usability and Accessibility. UNIPVC is the first Portuguese higher education institution to receive this distinction, which involves rigorous usability testing with people with disabilities to ensure inclusive digital services.
