University of Vienna studies if singing helps prevent Alzheimer's
Psychologist Anja-Xiaoxing Cui of the University of Vienna is leading a new research project titled ‘Music for Memory’ to investigate whether singing can positively impact Alzheimer's dementia.
The FWF-funded study will involve 100 participants over the age of 65 who have Alzheimer's dementia and no prior musical training. These individuals will receive one year of singing lessons across locations in Austria, Norway, and Argentina.
Researchers aim to determine if learning new music can improve other memory functions. To understand the neurological processes, the team will utilize EEG and MRI imaging to monitor the participants' brain activity.
