University of Vigo identifies oceanographic vessel as most expensive asset

The University of Vigo (UVigo) has identified its most expensive piece of equipment as a hybrid-propulsion oceanographic vessel moored in the Port of Vigo. Commissioned by the CIM and delivered by the Rodman shipyard in December 2023, the vessel has a total cost of 1,814,730 euros.

According to the university's transparency portal as of late 2024, the institution has already amortized over 10% of the vessel's value. UVigo has also tendered a contract for nearly half a million euros to supply the ship with various marine exploration devices, with expeditions along the Galician coast expected soon.

Other high-value assets listed in the university's inventory include advanced telecommunications systems. These include a 5G radio communication analysis system valued at 1,598,410 euros and a compact range system for 5G and 6G antenna measurement costing 1,232,990 euros, both of which support the university's 5G testing network.
