University of Waterloo to receive 2,500 new seats via $80M funding

The Ontario government has allocated $80 million to fund 2,515 additional seats at the University of Waterloo. These new positions, focused on high-demand sectors such as STEM and health, are expected to be available for student enrollment as early as the fall 2026 academic year.

This funding is part of a broader $1.7 billion provincial investment aimed at creating 70,000 new postsecondary seats across the province. The initiative is designed to bolster Ontario’s workforce and economic competitiveness by addressing labor market needs in critical industries.
