University of West Alabama fishing program placed on probation

The University of West Alabama bass fishing program has been placed on probation following an investigation by B.A.S.S. into conduct during the 2026 Strike King Bassmaster College National Championship held in Minnesota.

Head coach William Crawford has been suspended from all B.A.S.S.-sanctioned events through the end of the 2026-27 season and will be barred from Bassmaster College Series venues. While the investigation confirmed violations of the Bassmaster College Series rules and the Code of Conduct, specific details regarding the nature of the violations were not disclosed.

The penalties significantly impact the program’s standing; the team will not earn Team of the Year points for the 2026-27 season and is ineligible to qualify for the 2027 Bassmaster College National Championship. The University of West Alabama has stated it vehemently disputes the allegations and is currently determining its course of action.
