University of West Attica and Greek General Secretariat sign media literacy pact

The General Secretariat for Communication and Information and the University of West Attica have signed a four-year memorandum of cooperation aimed at enhancing media education and combating misinformation. The agreement was signed by General Secretary Dimitris Kirmikiloglou and University Rector Panagiotis E. Kaldis.

The partnership focuses on four main pillars: media education and audiovisual literacy, combating misinformation and digital resilience, digital skills development, and professional growth. To foster critical thinking, the initiative will utilize interactive tools such as digital games, animation, and specialized applications to provide experiential learning for students, educators, and the general public.

Key activities will include summer schools, workshops, festivals, and competitions aligned with UNESCO and European Union guidelines. Additionally, the collaboration will develop fact-checking methodologies tailored to the Greek digital ecosystem and create educational tools to help users identify manipulated audiovisual content and protect against hate speech and manipulation. The ANIMAPRO Research Laboratory will serve as the implementing body for the university.
