University of Wisconsin–Madison announces student and faculty research awards

The University of Wisconsin–Madison has announced several academic honors for both undergraduate students and faculty members.

Seven Indian American sophomores have been awarded 2026 Sophomore Research Fellowships. These students, including Sohan Alleshwaram, Adit Bhootra, Tejas Dahiya, Ishpreet Dang, Tirth Mihirbhai Patel, Anikait Patel, and Agastya Rathee, will receive institutional stipends to conduct independent scientific projects. Their research areas cover diverse fields such as computational modeling, cancer research, and agricultural gene flow.

Additionally, forty-two faculty members have received fellowships from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research for the 2026-2027 academic year. These honors include WARF Named Professorships, Kellett Fellowships, and Romnes Awards. The WARF Named Professorships, which include $100,000, recognize faculty for major contributions to knowledge through research, teaching, and service. Funding for these awards is supported by income from technology licensed by the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation.
