University of Wuppertal and social work students highlight academic initiatives
The University of Wuppertal in Germany highlighted several academic and social initiatives in July 2026. Sociologist Aladin El-Mafaalani delivered a lecture on the crisis of modern democracies to a capacity crowd of approximately 250 attendees. Additionally, the university awarded its 2025 Sustainability Prizes, granting 2,000 euros each to three projects focusing on resource recycling, climate crisis education, and organizational health.
In Austria, social work students have begun utilizing podcast production as a recognized method for academic examination. A recent podcast episode, ‘Salz in der Suppe’, showcased student-led audio projects covering diverse topics, including the history of social care during the National Socialist era, sexuality and disability, and the fundamental concepts of social work.
